The Movies and Product Advertising
Have you ever watched a movie and all of a sudden see some very familiar products being used by the lead actors or actresses in it? Familiarity with the products makes you beam with delight especially if it is one of your favorites or you have something like it. Many companies have included their products in many movie scenes but the advertising is very subtle. Although most of the time it comes out perfect, there are some instances when the advertisement is just simply too obvious. Indeed, there are some company owners who have paid producers and directors so that their products will have ad space in the movie.
Here are some popular movies we have seen that presented ads in a subtle and not-so-subtle ways.
In the movie Youve Got Mail, AOL and Starbucks had their moments of ad space. Without AOL in the film, there would be no story. And Starbucks had its piece of space when Tom Hanks makes a wisecrack about its obscurity.
In the movie Sex and the City, many products were advertised. There were many fashion labels advertised in the movie since fashion is a constant theme in the hit TV series. Nike, U-Haul, Apple, and Marie Claire were also included in the hit movie.
The movie E.T. showed Elliot using Reeses Pieces in order to lure E.T. back to the house, and this was where the Hersheys company was able to cash in. Using Reeses Pieces in the movie was perfect, but people saw the product and it became a hit in the grocery stores as well. This subtle technique is very effective. This technique will work and if you want to discover more, then you should click here.
The not-subtle-at-all ad placement is seen in Adam Sandlers movie Little Nicky. In this movie Adam, Satans son, learns how to eat Popeyes fried chicken with the help of a talking dog, with a big K-mart bag on the side.
In Waynes world, the most quotable quote is I will not bow to any sponsor. The plot allowed the blatant advertising in this movie. The quote was said while Wayne was opening up a box of Pizza Hut. You see Wayne eating from a bag of Doritos and drinking Pepsi while explain that he doesnt believe in selling out. In his own way, Garth had a head to toe advertisement of Reebok while talking on the idea of selling out.
People react in many ways seeing familiar products in movies. There are those who dont care. Some hate it. Others are happy to see something familiar. With this method of advertising, audiences worldwide are reached. There are millions of audiences reached especially if advertising is done on a blockbuster movie.
